BACKGROUND

There has been significant correlation between mental health issues and psychologists having mental health issues.   In a study published in 2022, over 80% of clinical, school, and counseling psychologists admitted they have a lifelong history of mental health issues and 45 % of psychologists stated they have a mental health disorder.  Although, psychologists and psychiatrists commonly have mental health issues and disorders many find it difficult to speak out about in fear of discrimination and reaching out for help. On the other hand, some psychologists use their disabilities as an opportunity to speak out about psychologists having mental illness, how to cope, and how to best use their mental issues to best aid their patients.  Nowadays psychologists having mental health issues is being talked about, but research is still very limited, so it is crucial it is widely spoken about to reduce stigma, specifically mental health stigma. The most important thing is to make awareness that everyone has mental health issues including psychologists and that they truly face lots in their career that can cause mental issues but can also use their issues as a superpower to best help their patients.
